Capes in the Making

Handmade presents are scary because they reveal that you have too much free time.

I’m not MIA, not really.  I’m reconnecting with my sewing machine so we can have an awesome birthday party for a certain little spiderman lover.

As a mama to such little guy I have to say I’ve been told and now have no reason to think that Spiderman wears a cape.  Yes I knew that before, but I’ve been told now.  :)  We’re doing a superhero themed birthday party and that where this lesson came in.  I’m making capes for little friends to decorate.  Thinking my guy could have an aversion to a non spiderman cape I had to think fast.

Think a blue and red (reversible) cape would rock his world?  How about if I slap a big ol’ spider on it?

Sure hope so.

Snuck in some time to make this spider and sew it onto one side of the cape.  When the kids are sleeping I’ll get back down there to do a little more sewing.

Speaking of birthdays my kids went to a party on Saturday and took another sewn project.

I have learned that kids who are not mine are anything but fans of handmade.  My daughter went gaga over this purse and requested one for herself.  Her smart mama happened to have one already cut out so she’ll get it in a bit.  The birthday girl though, not impressed.  I wish more kids were spoiled with handmade.

Yah, you heard me right, I think kids who get handmade are spoiled.  I think it makes them more creative, they realize someone really had them in mind and loves them…and talk about getting someone unique.  Me….oh now if you don’t know already, I LOVE handmade.

Cheers,

B

Brianne is a Canadian gal who loves living in a small town nestled at the base of the Rockies. Her full time job pays with hugs, kisses, and other such joys since she is a stay at home mama; she loves it. When tiny heads hit their pillows during naps and bedtime Brianne scampers off to grab a few moments of creating or some quiet time with her husband who is pretty good about her love affair with her sewing machine and dolls. Brianne’s first love was sewing, but even at that it was only discovered a couple years ago. A few short months ago Brianne ventured into a new addiction, doll making; she never expected to fall in love with the creating of each doll quite the way that she has. For the time being Brianne and her sewing machine have put aside sewing clothes to focus on her doll making.

I’m glad our kids like the handmade. Daughter here pulled out some warm, yellow leggings tonight that I made for her at Xmas time. Told me she’s on the “yellow” team for Sports Day at school on Sunday and could i make these into shorts or…..capris? Had to laugh. Yep. Our kids are lucky. And I think their friends know it also. A friend of daughters showed up one day with a pair of favorite old PJ bottoms that were falling a part, wanting me to repair them for her! Her Mom knew nothing!
